“From the research labs of today to the scientists of tomorrow”
Even though ACRCF focuses heavily on cancer research and prevention, we have made a point to not overlook the scientists of tomorrow, especially when they come from poorer areas. Many educators teaching in Title One schools across this country are not provided with the basic tools to teach proper science. Annually ACRCF sponsors science classrooms that fit these need criteria at the start of the school year.
See below the email received from one such classroom.
To the Generous People at the American Cancer Research Center and Foundation,
Thank you SO much for your donation to my classroom!!! When I read the email notifying me of your generosity, I started jumping and screaming with happiness! (My fiancé thought I had seen a mouse in our apartment, so he was also thrilled to discover it was something much better!) I absolutely cannot wait to tell the students the exciting news!
Your donation means SO much to be because I truly love these children, and it pains me to see them miss out on educational opportunities because their school lacks the funds to provide for them. Now, thanks to your WONDERFUL contribution, I can show them how exciting science can really be!
On the first day of school (which was, coincidentally, the day you adopted us), I asked my students how many of them had ever done lab activities before. Out of 120 kids, only 5 raised their hands. Before your donation, those remaining 115 kids would never have shared that experience. However, thanks to you, these children will finally have the opportunity to follow their curiosity and explore the world around them--they will have the chance to be scientists.
Sincerely,
Science Teacher (name removed for privacy)
