THE NATIONAL CANCER INSTITUTE’S CANCERNET
http://cancernet.nci.nih.gov/
CancerNet, the cancer site of the National Cancer Institute branch of the National Institutes of Health, is divided into three parts - Patients and the Public, Health Professionals, and Basic Researchers. The home page provides direct links to NCI’s comprehensive cancer database, PDQ, CANCERLIT, and their clinical trials site.
In the Patients and the Public section, you will find information on treatments, screening, prevention, and genetics as well as general information on cancer, links to other cancer resources, a simple search engine and the "Kids HomePage." From the home page you can also go back to the National Cancer Institute for more information about that government agency.
THE AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY
http://www.cancer.org
While the ACS home page features links to information about the ACS organization, current news and research, the general public will most often use the "Cancer Information" link. At that page, you have the option of selecting information on one of several different cancers each with an excellent overview; guides for patents and their families; links to full text articles and other information on alternative and complementary therapies; statistics and other sources on the Web.
THE UNIVERSITY OF PENNSYLVANIA’S CANCER RESOURCE ONCOLINK
http://www.oncolink.upenn.edu
OncoLink was begun in 1994 by University of Pennsylvania cancer specialists to help "cancer patients, families, health care professionals and the general public get accurate cancer-related information at no charge." It is a broad, informative site frequently updated to keep it current.
From the home page, you may select from Disease Oriented Menus, Medical Specialty, Cancer Causes, Screening, and Prevention, Clinical Trials, Global Resources, etc, but two of the more helpful and unique include the Psychosocial Support menu and the Financial Issues for Patients options.
The psychosocial link offers information for patients and families on a number of issues related to the psychological and social issues related to cancer including coping, sexuality, end of life issues, pain management and more. The financial link offers full text articles on cancer and insurance news, information about assistance programs and a glossary of financial and medical terms. |
